 Streets filled with live music, floats, beads flying through the air and a large crowd of happy people, New Orleans and Mardi Gras is what comes to mind. Trumpets, saxophones, and drums playing that sweet Jazz tune. Guitars, harmonicas, and pianos strumming that soulful Blues rhythm. Rock N Roll, Zydeco along with numerous other genres also made their way into this famous city.

When thinking of New Orleans music history, the first genre that comes to mind is Jazz. New Orleans is known as the birthplace of Jazz music. With the first Jazz musician known as Buddy Bolden. Numerous musician played here including: Sidney Bechet, Bunk Johnson, Joe “King” Oliver, Kid Ory and Jelly Roll Morton ("Music History | New Orleans and the Early Roots of Jazz"). 
  
The popular Congo Square located in Louis Armstrong Park at 701 N. Rampart St. on the edge of the French Quarter. Congo Square is known to be where slaves would come and play music, sell goods and celebrate ("Parks and Parkways - Parks & Squares - Congo Square-Louis Armstrong Park - City of New Orleans").

The first Opera House in North America is also located in New Orleans. It unfortunately had to be rebuilt after a fire and went under new management.
 French Opera House 

The Preservation Hall in a long running music hall. Numerous genres are played here including: gospel, hip-hop, bluegrass and rock (Lee). Opened in 1961 to honor Jazz music. Before named Preservation Hall it was Mr. Larry's Gallery. Mr. Borenstein passed and the honeymooner Jaffe took over.

Congo Square in Louis Armstrong Park was a place of gathering for slaves on Sunday's which was their day off. As stated on the sign itself, "500 to 600 people gathered here." They were vendors and sold their skills, food and handmade goods. It is said to be "home of the most famous dances which were the Bamboula, the Calinda, and the Congo.
